THE BEGINNER'S GUIDE
Welcome to Maple World! This guide walks you from character creation to the boat off Maple Island. If you haven't set up the game yet, read How to Play first.
Your character
Every new character starts as a Beginner on Maple Island with 4 STR / 4 DEX / 4 INT / 4 LUK. Don't stress the dice — what matters is where you put your AP (Ability Points, 5 per level, assigned in the Stat window with S):
| Planning to be... | Raise mostly | Keep some |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | STR | DEX for accuracy |
| Magician | INT | LUK (about your level + 3) |
| Bowman | DEX | STR |
| Thief | LUK | DEX |
| Pirate | STR (brawler) or DEX (gunner) | the other one |
First steps on Maple Island
- Talk to Heena — she's standing right where you spawn on Maple Road, with a lightbulb over her head. Lightbulbs mean an NPC has a quest for you. She teaches movement and hands you your first quest chain (say hi to her sister Sera down the hill).
- Learn to move — ←→ walk, Alt jumps, Ctrl attacks, Z picks up drops, ↑ enters portals and climbs ropes. Full list in the controls guide.
- Follow the road east — Mushroom Town leads toward Amherst and Southperry. Quest NPCs along the way (Sera, Rain, Mai, Bigg, Sen, Lucas the mayor, Pio, Peter, Shanks) chain their quests naturally — keep an eye on the quest tracker on the right edge, and press Q for the full quest log with a FIND NPC button.
Training
- Snails (green, then blue) are your first targets — one or two hits each.
- Shroom & Red Snail hit harder but give much better EXP once you have a few levels.
- Pick up everything: Vesos, snail shells, mushroom caps. Quests want them, and shops pay for the rest.
- Buy a stack of Red Potions from the Mushroom Town shop before fighting Red Snails. Bind them to a key in the keyboard settings.
Leaving the island
When you hit level 8–10 (8 is enough for Magician, 10 for everyone else), head to Southperry at the far east and talk to Shanks by the ship. The fare is 150 Vesos. The trip is one-way — say goodbye to the tutorial island — and lands at Lith Harbor, Victoria Island, where your job advancement awaits.
Tip: your character auto-saves constantly, so you can close the tab
any time. Levels, quests and items will be right where you left them.
